Abstract

This presentation aims to demonstrate to pre-service and in-service secondary school English teachers 1) practical ideas of teaching and learning English for international communication; 2) how to put these ideas into practice; and 3) explain the underlying principles of pedagogical choices and practice for international communication. Then, this presentation aims to encourage pre-service and in-service secondary school English teachers to consider their assumptions about how established English language education relates to communicative language use from a perspective of English as a lingua franca (ELF). Lastly, this presentation will provide an overview and summary of the implications for teaching English for international communication.
