The Faculty of Education 1st Postgraduate Research Symposium

The Faculty of Education 1st Postgraduate Research Symposium

Prof. Barry Lee Reynolds chaired the first Faculty of Education Postgraduate Research Symposium held at the University of Macau on 29 May 2021. The symposium provided opportunities for Faculty of Education postgraduate students at the master’s and doctorate levels to use English to practice giving conference papers and poster presentations in a friendly environment. The 2021 symposium theme was “Rethinking the Future of Education.”

Several ALLL members were in attendance or assisted with the symposium. Ding Chen, Crystal Ma, and Jiaxuan Shi assisted with the registration, symposium booklet, and photography. Tianjiao (Tina) Song, a PhD candidate, served as emcee for the symposium as well as presenting her own paper titled “The Effects of Lexical Coverage and Topic Familiarity on the Comprehension of L2 Expository Texts.” Sylvia Liu, a PhD candidate, presented a poster titled “Transdisciplinary Professionals as Collaborative Mentors in Family-centred Caregiver Support for Early Childhood Family Education.”

In addition to a keynote speech given by Prof. Zhisheng (Edward) Wen from the Macao Polytechnic Institute on “Reconceptualizing Working Memory in Academic Learning and Education Research,” there were 8 postgraduate paper presentations and 7 postgraduate poster presentations. The student presentations were on several different educational research fields including English education, Chinese education, Math education, educational psychology, early childhood education, physical education, among others.
