Title: ChatGPT in EFL Education: Advancing Writing Skills through AI Feedback Integration
Abstract
The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in educational settings has introduced tools like ChatGPT as innovative Automated Writing Evaluation (AWE) systems. This study evaluates ChatGPT as an AWE tool for enhancing English as a Foreign Language (EFL) writing instruction. Two groups of non-native English-speaking students used ChatGPT in four feedback modes, integrating automated, teacher, and peer feedback in various combinations. The effectiveness of each mode was assessed through pre-tests and posttests. Results showed that ChatGPT’s feedback significantly improved writing proficiency. Students reported high satisfaction, noting that the AI tool complemented traditional feedback methods, reduced writing anxiety, and increased motivation and self-efficacy in writing.
