Abstract
Contextual learning has been recognized as an important method for English as a Foreign Language(EFL) learning and drama has usually been employed for EFL learning by guiding learners to interact and use body language to practice English. In this seminar, I report on the development of a contextual drama (CD) system in mobile devices for EFL learning. Students used the CD system to prepare, make and conduct drama with the incorporation of their voices, photos, and texts in authentic contexts. The results demonstrated authentic drama-based learning resulted in better learning achievements than traditional methods. Collaboration, as key in drama-based EFL learning, could promote peer discussion and help writing abilities in terms of sentence complexity and diversity. Additional analysis revealed body language usage and engagement in drama have significant effects on learning.
